Her first roles on television were two roles as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in The ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mom. However, her parents were not keen to let her take on acting roles until she was older and worried about the consequences of stress. Perry was shy during high school and did not act. She began acting at Northwestern University to gain friends when she transferred to the university from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, relocated to New York in search of the role on TV. The actress was offered small roles in TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But, her home-sickness led her to California to pursue theater opportunities. In 2013, she was a part of The Other Place on Broadway with her mother. In 2015, she starred alongside her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles.
