Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Her first television roles were two episodes as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne which was played by her mom. But her parents would not let her perform until she turned an adult because of how stress can impact on their daughter. Perry claimed that she was nervous to be an actor at the age of 16, but she began playing at Northwestern University as a way to make friends after transferring from Boston University. Perry started her acting career in New York after graduation, getting small roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then, homesickness led to Perry return to California and pursue a career as a stage actress. She performed on Broadway as a part of The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. In 2015, she performed with her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played a role in 9 episodes of The Family, an ABC crime thriller The Family in 2016. In 2017, Perry performed a role as a support in ABC's thriller about politics Scandal that starred her father. In addition, she appeared on her role on the CBS show The Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. Despite having a family connection to the character, she was offered the role through an audition.
